Day 1

Day 1 part 2

In case you didn't know, the Dominican republic and Haiti share an island. Haiti is the poorer of the two countries and is classified as fourth world. we'll be going right on the Dominican Haitian border working with a lot of Hatain refugees. In the Dominican many of these Haitians are persecuted and discriminated against because of their race. they receive the worst jobs(if any) and live in terrible conditions. We are all so excited to help the people of the Dominican Republic ..............
On the departure day, we all had to be at the airport before 4 a.m. Which means leaving for the airport by 3. Many of us got less than 4 hours of sleep, but were so excited to leave for our trip. After spending time getting to know each other while waiting to board the plane, most of us fell right asleep. Now, we are waiting on a 4 hour layover to board our second plane that will take us right to the DR. Wasting time calling friends, joking, eating gross food, playing cards, and hangin' out. Besides that, nothing too exciting has happened.

About the Trip

A group of 40 students along with 2 leaders will be heading down to serve in the Dominican Republic for the week of Feb. 21st-28th. We are super excited to work with the people down there, helping out in anyway we can. We'll be doing some construction in some local villages along with some teaching seminars and a VBS for the children.

This blog is for those hoping to keep in touch with the members of the 2009 Young Life College Dominican Republic Missions trip. We will try to update this blog while in the DR with pictures and video as often as possible.

Please pray for our team as we take off bright and early on the 21st.

Some specific things to pray for while we're gone: Team Unity, safety in our travels, reception of the people we'll be working with and God's blessing while we're there.

We can't wait to share how God has moved our lives when we return :)
